In-swing windows

EGRESS CODE
Back

When trying to meet egress code with a window, it is the unobstructed opening that is most important, not the size of the window frame.  There are two basic parts to the unobstructed opening part of the code that you need to be aware of.  You must meet a minimum width and height of the opening, and a minimum overall opening of 5.7 sq/ft.  Most municipalities enforce a minimum unobstructed opening of 20" by 24" irrespective of width or height.  I have heard of some municipalities looking for a minimum of 22" instead of 20".  It is important to check with your local building inspector to see what is enforced in your area.  We will not be held liable for sending you a window(s) that does not meet egress code.
